Gene was born in Danbury, CT, a son of the late Eugene A, Sr. and Phoebe Coughlin Previdi. He attended St. Joseph’s in Danbury and was a 1959 graduate of Danbury High School. Gene received his BA from St. Francis College in Biddeford, ME.
Gene collected friends from all aspects of his life; kindergarten, high school, college, his Sunday foursome at Ridgewood Country Club, Harbour Ridge, fellow hockey dads, the list is endless. He had a one liner for every situation. He was a devoted Catholic, who wore a rut in the kneelers at St. Rose praying for his family and friends. Gene loved his family and nothing made him happier than the mayhem of a Sunday night dinner complete with food being passed/thrown, dogs running away all while he sat at the head of the table with a huge smile.
After retiring from a successful career selling paper, Gene became a professional grandfather; Pops was always on the sidelines at baseball games, swim meets, golf matches, hockey games, dance recitals and was always available for a last minute pick up or forgotten item. The Yankees, NY Giants and Yale hockey have lost one of their biggest fans.
The love of Gene’s life was Joy. They met in high school and married after college. They shared a love of Maine, especially The Dunes in Ogunquit. They never missed a chance to walk the Marginal Way, enjoy a sunset or a coffee on the porch looking at the ocean.
In addition to his wife of 56 years, survivors include his daughter, Helen Previdi; his sons: Jeffrey Previdi and Gene Previdi III; and his daughters-in-law Sandy and Lindsay Previdi; his grandchildren: Walker, CJ and Pearson and his sister, Marcia Izzo and her husband, Paul.
Gene was predeceased by a brother, Cecil J. Previdi, Jr. and granddaughter, Caroline Phoebe Previdi.
