He was born November 24, 1937 in Yonkers, NY to John and Jennie Mooney. He received his GED while serving in the United States Navy. He married Phyllis Mooney on June 28, 1959 in Yonkers. He was the epitome of a hard worker, working seven days a week, yet still finding time for his wife and kids. He loved golfing, fishing, hunting, racquetball, squash, sailing, softball, touch-football – the list could go on forever – there wasn’t a sport or activity that Frank didn’t love or appreciate.
Meeting Frank was an experience you could never forget. He had a penchant for putting smiles on others faces and he did so with ease. If Frank was telling a joke or story you could hear a pin drop in the room… until he finished the joke and the room erupted in laughter. Frank was one-of-a-kind, and as a result, it’s impossible to describe him in words. You either experienced Frank or you didn’t — those who know, know.
He was predeceased by his son Robert (Bobby). He is survived by his wife, Phyllis; his brother and sister, John Mooney and Kathleen Cheney; his children, Frank Mooney, Dr. Joseph (Donna) Mooney, Kathleen McKinney, and Dr. Brian (Bola) Mooney; his 13 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
His wake will be held on Friday, November 24, 2023 at Green Funeral Home from 5-8pm. His funeral mass will be held at Saint Joseph’s Church in Danbury at 10am on Saturday and his burial will follow at Saint Peter’s Cemetery, Danbury.
