

Henry was born in Danbury, a son of the late Henry T. and Ethel Hooker McDermott. He attended Balmforth Avenue School and was a graduate of Danbury High School. Henry served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. A longtime employee of the Danbury Post Office, Henry was a letter carrier retiring in 1989 after over 20 years.
Henry was a member of the Catholic War Veterans in Danbury and the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association. A devoted uncle to his nieces and nephews, Henry was a sports enthusiast and fan of the Connecticut Casinos.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his beloved brother-in-law, George F. Schmiedel.
Survivors include his sister: Sally Schmiedel of Danbury. His nephews: Mark F. Schmiedel and his children: Carolyn, Gregory and Daniel; and Steven T. Schmiedel. His niece: Brenda Schmiedel Forrest and her sons, Christopher and Cameron Forrest. He is also survived by his special “niece-in-law”: Anne Katzenberger Schmiedel.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 10am at St. Peter Church in Danbury with the Rev. Gregg Mecca, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Wooster Cemetery.

Friends will be received on Thursday from 3pm to 6pm at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury.
