Jo Ann (née Burke) Gallagher, a cherished, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 24, 2024, at the age of 83 after a short battle with cancer. She was the beloved wife of William J Gallagher of 61 years.
Born on July 6, 1941, in New York, New York, she was the daughter of John G. Burke and Mary R. Burke.
Jo Ann grew up attending Good Shephard Grade School in Manhattan, New York and graduated from Hackensack High School in Hackensack, New Jersey. Jo Ann carried with her the values and vibrancy of her New York roots throughout her life. She dedicated herself to family, the church, her community, and those she loved, embodying kindness and a deep sense of compassion that inspired everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Jo Ann began her professional journey at Mutual of New York, before taking time to raise her children and dedicate herself to her family. During these years, Jo Ann was a supporter of the Danbury Junior Service League, Girl and Boy Scouts of America, First Communion classes, St. Matthews Guild, Secretary to Friends of Seniors and Meals on Wheels. As her three sons moved into their teenage years she later returned to the workforce, joining Union Carbide in Danbury, CT. Her commitment and dedication left a lasting impression on her colleagues and friends in the workplace and community.
Jo Ann enjoyed traveling with her loving husband, Bill, and hosting her extended family. These family gatherings were often held at a favorite spot for the Gallagher family in Bethany Beach, DE, where she created some of her fondest memories. Her warmth and smile leave an enduring legacy of love and connection for her family.
Jo Ann was predeceased by her sisters: Eleanor Doyle and Cathy Peterfreund.
In addition to her husband, she leaves behind “The Boys”, Andrew (Joann), Michael (Debby) and Brian (Bridget) and four grandchildren, whom she adored: Jack, Will, Duffy and Molly. She is survived by her siblings: John (Margie) Burke and Noreen (Robert) Alt and many loving nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30am on Monday, January 6, 2025 at St. Edward the Confessor Church, New Fairfield, with the Rev. Robert Wolfe, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. View Cemetery, New Fairfield.
Friends will be received from 10:00am to 10:30am on Monday, January 6, 2025 at St. Edward the Confessor Church, New Fairfield, CT.
