Prior to her retirement in 1997, she was employed for 38 years at the Savings Bank of Danbury, where she started as a teller and went on to serve as Vice President and Corporate Secretary.
Joan was a selfless person who always took care of others. She had a great sense of humor, loved to travel, and treasured time spent with her family and lifelong friends.
Besides her parents, Joan was predeceased by three sisters; Geraldine McNamara, Marie Young, and Alma Granja, and seven brothers; Eugene, Burr, George, Charles, Richard, John, and Robert. She was also predeceased by her husband of 23 years, Peter Cushnie, and his son Peter.
Joan is survived by Peter’s daughter Susan Cushnie Ronan (Kevin) and his son Douglas Cushnie Sr. (Karen), as well as six grandchildren; Holly Evans (Morgan), Cassi Ronan, Sam Ronan, Ben Ronan, Doug Cushnie Jr (Melanie), and Connor Cushnie, and one great granddaughter, Norah Evans. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank all those who spent time with Joan and cared for her during her illness, especially Betsy Stevens, Maria Tromp and Brenda Warren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am on Tuesday, June 27, 2023 at St. Joseph Church, Brookfield, CT. Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery, Danbury, CT.
Friends will be received from 9:00am-10:00am on Tuesday, June 27, 2023 at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury, CT.
