Born on April 5, 1940, in Chester, NY, to the late Mayona and John Logan, John lived a fulfilling life. After graduating high school, he attended community college and managed a local store. His unwavering patriotism and strong sense of duty led him to serve in the U.S. Air Force. While attending classes at the University of Minnesota, he met his beloved wife, Phyllis. Their love was the cornerstone of his life, and they eventually settled in New Fairfield, CT, where they raised their family. John built a successful career in purchasing, working for American Can Company and later Uniroyal Chemical Company, before retiring to devote more time to his family and pursue his interests.
A lifelong learner, John had an insatiable curiosity exploring topics like American and military history, personal finance, and genealogy. He enjoyed operas, watching movies, and engaging in lively discussions about current events and politics. John and Phyllis shared a love for travel, exploring North America and visiting Europe. A frequent New Fairfield Public Library patron, he cherished their mysteries and action thriller collection.
John’s commitment to serving others was a defining aspect of his life. It extended beyond his military career. He volunteered to drive veterans to medical appointments, was a peer counselor for a cancer survivor support group, and was a poll worker. He served as treasurer for the New Fairfield Veterans Association for many years and as a long-standing Mountain View Cemetery board member. John was an active member of the Veterans Corps of Artillery/New York Guard, the Military Society of the War of 1812, the Sons of the American Revolution, and the Uniroyal Chemical Investment Club.
John will be deeply missed by his devoted children: John Logan of New Fairfield, CT; Sara Merenda and her husband Scott Merenda, of Madison, CT; Paul Logan and his wife Julie Steiner, of Denver, CO. He leaves behind five grandsons Noah Logan, Evan Merenda, Joshua Logan, Jacob Merenda, and Eli Logan, who brought him immense pride. He is remembered fondly by his dear friend Gerda Weed and several cousins, nieces, and nephews, including Patrick Logan and his son Aidan. John was predeceased by his cherished wife of 54 years, Phyllis, his sister, Betty Houston, and his brother, James Logan.
Family and friends may gather on May 2, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 pm at Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St, Danbury, CT 06810. Interment will follow immediately at Mountainview Cemetery.
