Josephine was born in Bronx, NY, daughter of the late Dr. Herman and Jean Cappel of Westbury, NY. She attended Westbury High School, Class of 1962, and graduated from Hofstra University.
Josephine was a successful and dedicated Retail Executive for 40+ years working for Dress Barn and Macy’s Inc. As a veteran of the retail industry, she was a mentor to many, paving the way for young professionals.
She had a love for shopping, going out to lunch with friends and most of all spending time with her grandchildren. To know her was to love her. Her sense of humor, infectious laugh, endless advice and positive attitude was like no other.
In addition to Josephine and Michel being high school sweethearts and married for 52 years, she was the proud and dedicated mother to her daughters, Danielle Johnson, Rebecca Brown and son-in-law Lee A. Brown. A devoted and loving Nana to Christian, Gavin and Madison Johnson, Jada, Zaria and Ella Brown and all those blessed with her unconditional love.
Besides her daughters, son-in-law and grandchildren, Josephine is survived by her beloved brother and sister in-law: Jack and Marlene Cappel; sister and brother in-law: Elizabeth and James Ruckel; brother in-law and sister in-law: Thomas and Cathy Russo.
She is predeceased by her loving sister Joan Cappel. Josephine leaves behind her love for her aunt, cousins, nieces, nephews, and many dear friends.
Family and friends will be received from 4pm – 7pm on Wednesday, June 7, 2023 at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury, CT.
A Prayer Service will be conducted in the funeral home at 7:00pm.
A Celebration of Life will take place on Thursday, June 8, 2023 at 12 noon at the Amber Room Colonnade, 1 Stacey Rd, Danbury, CT.
