Jack was born April 7, 1933 in Ridgefarm, IL, the son of the late Catherine Vreeland. He attended Michigan State University, where he was a member of its ROTC program, and graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering. Following college, Jack entered the US Air Force, where he trained as a fighter pilot, receiving the rank of Captain. Following his service, Jack worked as an electrical engineer in the telecommunications industry, retiring as a sales executive with General Data Comm Industries. He had been a resident of Danbury for 17 years, and previously had resided in Sandy Hook.
Jack enjoyed gardening and in later years watching golf, tennis and Michigan State football.
In addition to his wife Patricia of 63 years, Jack is survived by his son: Dr. Neil Stahl, and his wife Dr. Jayne Raper of New York, NY, his daughters: Cheryl Martell and her husband Jeffrey of Potomac, MD and Jill Crimi and her husband Joseph of Bethel, four grandchildren: Cassie (Ryan), Kyle (Jess), Kelly, and Michael, three great grandchildren: Madison, Hadley, and Mackenzie, and six surviving siblings: Linda Taft, Jim Vreeland, Chuck Vreeland, Mary Zellner, Jann Vreeland and Valerie Moses, along with several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will take place on Friday August 10th at 11:00am in the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main Street, Danbury. Burial will be in the Elmwood Cemetery, Bethel.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday August 9th from 4:00 to 8:00pm.
Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers are requested to be made to Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 Saint Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
