Michael was born on November 17, 1952 in New York, New York to Velma and Abraham King. Michael attended Theodore Roosevelt High School and when he turned 20 years old, he made the decision to enter the U.S. Army. After completing four years of service deployed in Hawaii in which time he learned the skills of cook/kitchen supervisor and auto mechanic, he received an honorable discharge in 1974.
In 1975, Michael relocated to Springfield, Massachusetts. During his time there, he was employed in the role of cook or head chef in a few of the city’s popular restaurants. Michael enjoyed cooking and sharing his culinary skills and great meals with others. A few years after settling in Springfield, Michael met Evelyn Baymon and a few years later their son Tirrel was born.
Some years later Michael relocated back to Middletown, New York. His entrepreneurial spirit kicked in and Michael established Squeegee King Window Cleaning Services. He would later hire more staff and expand the business to offer office cleaning services as well. For many years, Michael ran this very successful business in Middletown, New York until 2011 when he was involved in an automobile accident that rendered him unable to continue to run his business.
After his accident, Michael moved to Danbury, Connecticut to be near his mother and family. His mother was delighted to have her son nearby. Mom would often recount stories of all the parties and holiday events Michael would host for the residents at Danbury Towers. He enjoyed dazzling the guests with his culinary and fruit carving skills. He was a great musician who was self-taught and later shared his talents with others and with his church. Michael would play in nearby parks and teach others about his passion for music. He also enjoyed photography and antique collections which became his passionate hobby here in Danbury, CT.
Michael is preceded in death by father, Abraham King; his mother Velma Vincente; and his sister Arlene Rochelle King-Currence. Michael leaves behind his only son, Tirrel Baymon (wife Tiffany Baymon) and three grandchildren, Heather Baymon, Travis Baymon and Taylor Baymon; brother, James Edward King; sister, Linda Ann King-Monsanto (husband Charles Monsanto); and sisters Robyn Emily McFarland and Antolina Marie Vincente. Michael also leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews: Jamel King, Irad Vanterpool Jr., April Edwards (husband Arnold), Dafina Monsanto, Raquel King, Christopher King (wife Evgeniya), Sabrina Diakanwa (husband Michael), Candice Horn (husband Steven), Rockea Monsanto, Ashley Pascal (husband Charles), Craig Meriwether Jr., Marcus Simpson, Alexander Meriwether, Sabra Robinson and Joshua Currence.
Family will receive friends on Friday, September 6, 2019 from 4pm - 7pm at Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury, and on Saturday, September 7 from 10am - 11am at Trinity Christian Tabernacle Church, 91 Elm St., Danbury with services at 11am. Burial with military honors will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, Bethel, CT.
