

Nelson was born in Portugal to Sezaltina and Manuel Macedo on October 7, 1930. He moved to the United States in 1933 with his family.
Nelson served as corporal in U.S. Army during the Korean War in Germany from 1950-1952. He married Martha Dinho on April 24, 1954 in Danbury, CT. In 1954, he started as a Special Police Officer and then in 1962, he joined the Danbury Police Dept. as a patrol officer and after several promotions, in 1977, he became Chief of Police. During his career, he survived the bombing of the police dept. and started several units including a drug busting unit, first canine, scuba diving team, breathalyzers and foot patrol. Nelson retired in 1997, becoming one of the longest acting chiefs in CT history.
Some of the things that Nelson enjoyed were hunting in Vermont, the New York Giants, going out to dinner at Marcels and Atlantic with the guys and playing cards.
Nelson is preceded by death by his wife Martha, his parents Sezaltina and Manuel and his sister Ida Antunes.
Nelson is survived by his daughter Debra Connors and her husband Tom Connors, granddaughters, Nicole Connors, Caitlin Simao and her husband Louis Simao and his two great grandsons, Louis Jr. and Declan Simao along with his sister Julie Font and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Monday, April 7, 2025 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury, CT 06810. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, April 8, 2025, 10:00 AM at St. Peter Church, 104 Main St., Danbury, CT 06810. Interment will follow with Military Honors at St. Peter Cemetery, 71 Lake Ave. Ext, Danbury, CT 06810.
