Nifa "Nitsa" Kaplanis

Nitsa was born in a village called Richea Laconia, near Sparta, Greece, to Angelos and Irene Frangakis on September 8,1931. She went to school in Athens, Greece and Bridgeport, CT. After arriving to America, she lived with her aunt and uncle Eleni and Constantine Papaostantinos. She married Anthony Kaplanis on November 18, 1951, at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Bridgeport, CT.

Nitsa worked as a seamstress for many area department stores including Read’s, Lord & Taylor, David’s Bridal and Macy’s where she retired at age 82. She was an active member of the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church in Danbury. She was a past secretary of the Ladies Philoptochos Society of the church, also serving as a Greek school teacher and was a choir member. She made altar boy vestments and participated at the annual church Greek Festival for many years.

Nitsa is preceded in death by her husband Anthony and her son Stephen.

She is survived by her sons Nicholas and spouse Donna, Fr. Paul and spouse Evi; daughter in law Kimberly; her grandchildren, Anthony and spouse Shannon, Matthew and spouse Silvia, Nicole and spouse James Tatarzycki, Michael, Katerina and spouse Costa Katsadouros, Christina and spouse Lee Hathaway, Christopher and spouse Elizabeth, Lauren and spouse Chris Busso; great grandchildren, Benjamin, Aiden, Lucinda, Nicholas, Marcus, Matthew, Ashley, Cameron, Sophia, Anthony, Eirianna, Emilia, Evanthia, Stephen, Vivi and Maximos.

The Rite of Burial will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at The Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, 30 Clapboard Ridge Rd., Danbury, with Fr. Nikolas Karloutsos, Fr. Peter Karloutsos and Fr. Paul Kaplanis officiating.

There will be a viewing from 11:30AM to 12:30 PM preceding the Rite of Burial.

Burial will follow at Wooster Cemetery, 20 Ellsworth Ave., Danbury. Arrangements are by Green Funeral Home.
