Born in Danbury, CT, Pat was the daughter of the late William P. and Christine (née Evanstock) Melody. She attended St. Joseph’s school in Danbury, graduated from Danbury High School, and earned a master’s degree from Western Connecticut State University. Pat was a teacher for close to a decade at schools in Long Island, NY, and New Fairfield, CT: her gentle and patient nature made her the perfect fit for the role.
John and Pat raised their two children, J.P. and Meghan, in Bethel, CT. Though she spent the majority of her life in Bethel, Pat also lived in Jupiter, Florida, and Hull, MA, where she made wonderful friends. Pat loved having Lunch Bunch every Saturday for many years with her three sisters, Tiny, Sharon and Maura, spending time with cherished friends, and being the best and most active Grammy to her two grandchildren.
Nothing made Pat happier than being Grammy to her grandchildren, whom she referred to as her sunshine. She was often seen wearing a sweatshirt that said Grammy that she bought on her annual trip to the Big E with her daughter and grandchildren.
Pat was an avid basket weaver, and part of a special group of women who called themselves The Basket Buddies and attended several basket-weaving conventions. Pat was a lover of a cup of tea and a good chocolate chip cookie. Always taking pictures of her loved ones, she never failed to take two just in case the first one didn’t come out. Pat always had a card ready to send for any and all of life’s special occasions, and will be remembered for her kindness and thoughtfulness.
In addition to her parents, Pat was predeceased by her brothers: Billy, Jack and Butch Melody, as well as her brothers-in-law, Frank Davis and Gene Austin, and her treasured friend Jo Anne Markosky.
In addition to her husband of 52 years, she leaves behind: her son J.P. and his partner, Michelle, of Brookline, MA; her daughter Meghan, son-in-law Cosmo Pallazola, and her two beloved grandchildren of Manchester-by-the-Sea, MA. She also leaves behind: her sisters, Christine Austin of Bethel, CT, and Sharon Davis of Newtown, CT; her brothers- and sisters-in-law Maura Melody of Danbury, CT, Christopher and Peggy Egan of New Milford, CT, Gerard and Carol of Southbury, CT, and Michael and Mary Becher of Bethel, CT. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and countless friends whom she cherished.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, May 17, 2025 at 10:30 am at St. Mary Church, Bethel, CT. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Bethel, CT.
There are no calling hours.
