Crescent was born in Stamford, daughter of the late Joseph and Katherine Carlucci. Crescent came to Danbury at the age of two when her parents purchased a farm in King Street. She attended the original one-room King Street School where she was instructed by her sister Mary. After attending junior high at Main Street School, she moved on to Danbury High School. Upon graduating with the class of 1934-1935, she attended Crandall Business School.
She began her career as a legal secretary for the law firm of Spiro and Levine on Main Street. It was during this time that she met her future husband, Simeon – a tailor. They were married in January of 1942 and lived happily together until Simeon’s passing in 1987.
After a brief stint working on the army base in Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia where Simeon was stationed during World War II, Crescent returned to Danbury. She became well-known and loved by many over the next few decades, cheerfully serving customers at Wengrow’s Jewelers, Heyman’s Hardware Store and Connie’s Style Shop, eventually retiring in 1984. She enjoyed politics and briefly served as an assistant registrar of voters wishing to stay active into retirement.
Crescent had a “joie de vivre” that was admired by all her family and friends. She was always upbeat and positive and could liven up any gathering with her quick wit and humorous stories. She would always remind us that her name, Vita Crescent, meant “life growing larger” in Italian, extremely proud of her heritage. She was fond of sharing stories about life growing up on the farm in King Street and could recant with vivid detail an era long gone. She passed away quietly in her own home as she had wished. She will be sadly missed by her family and many friends.
She is survived by her son Paul Nickolloff and wife Claudia of Danbury, her sister Catherine Zalla of Danbury, her nieces: Sally Inglese and husband Vincent, Karen Gallo and husband Michael and Janice Zalla, her nephews: Blasé Carlucci, Jr. and wife Connie and John Stavola and wife Joan, 14 grand-nieces and grand-nephews and many great grand-nieces and great grand-nephews. In addition to her husband Simeon, she is predeceased by her sisters: Mary Carlucci and Louise Stavola and her brothers: Blasé, Vito and Joey Carlucci.
Funeral services will be held at Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury, on Tuesday morning at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Peter Cemetery. Friends may call at the Green Funeral Home, on Monday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.
