Bonnie Jean (Eldredge) Robbins, 75, of South Dartmouth, passed into Heaven on Saturday, July 3rd, after a long battle with cancer and the resulting poor health. She was born in Hyannis the daughter of the late Charles M. and Genieve (Fuller) Eldredge of Hyannis. She lived most of her life on Cape Cod, three years in Plattsburgh, NY, eight years in Traverse City, Michigan and twenty three years here in Dartmouth.
She was the wife for fifty eight years, of Orren B. Robbins. Survivors include son Orren Jr. and his wife Frankie of Simpsonville, South Carolina; son David of Cape Cod and Key West, FL and son Stephen of Norfolk, and was the mother, too, of Kenneth Michael who died in 1960. She is also survived by her sister Mary Maki and her husband Frederick of Hyannis Port, and was sister of the late Mervyn “Murf” Eldredge. She was the grandmother of Sarah J. Robbins, Zachary Robbins, Bethanie Robbins, Amanda Robbins, Sarah White and Josh White, and has several nieces and nephews.
She had many rewarding ‘careers’ as she moved about the country with her husband. As a teenager she worked in the Barnstable selectman’s office. She did hospital work at the Cape Cod Hospital when living in Osterville and Hyannis, and also in hospitals in Plattsburgh and Traverse City. She worked as a Hospice Volunteer in Michigan and here, worked as a Female Liaison Officer for Bristol County under then Sheriff David Nelson. She had a passion for politics working as office manager for the Republican Party in Traverse City, but her biggest political thrill was being in attendance at the inauguration of President Ronald Reagan in January 1981.
Visiting hours will be held on Saturday, July 10th from 4-7pm in the Waring-Sullivan Home of Memorial Tribute at Dartmouth, 230 Russells Mills Rd. in Dartmouth. Her remains will be interred beside her son Kenneth Michael at the Hillside Cemetery in Osterville, MA in a brief ceremony on Monday, July 12th. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Southcoast Hospice, 200 Mill Rd., Suite 120, Fairhaven, MA 02719 or Community Nurse & Hospice Care, P.O. Box 751, Fairhaven, MA 02719.
