

Albert’s Career began in the 1940’s when he joined the Naval Reserves. After leaving the Reserves he began a 47 year career with DND, starting out as a Machinist and finishing as a Ships Coordinating Officer with the Ship Repair Unit (Atlantic) now FMF Cape Scott. This was a position he thoroughly enjoyed and excelled at. In his earlier years Al was president of the Dartmouth Dolphins diving club and he was a well-known local amateur boxer. Staying active later in life he enjoyed badminton, cycling, Tai- Kwan do, kayaking, camping and cross country skiing. Al was an avid handyman who was always able to solve a problem creatively. He loved to travel and enjoyed many cruises with his wife Linda.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Martin; daughters, Barbara Birch and Pamela Brewer-Copeland; sisters, Laura Currie and Edwina Scott (Roger); brother-in-law, Donald (Judy) Martin; his beloved granddaughter, Emily Copeland and son-in-law, Rick Copeland. He was predeceased by his brother, Ernest “Sonny”; sister, Isobell MacKenzie and son-in-law, Gary Birch.
A memorial service will be held 11am Tuesday January 7, 2014 in A.L. Mattatall Funeral Home, 217 Portland Street, Dartmouth, NS. Interment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Nova Scotia Alzheimer’s Society or a charity of choice. A special thank you to Tracey of Harbourside Unit at Ocaenview.
