Arthur Francis Hooghe

Arthur Francis Hooghe of Beaver Bank, passed away on the morning of December 5th 2025. This brought to an end a well lived and much travelled life of 93 years, which started out on August 20 1932 in Stellarton Pictou County.

Sonny, as he was known to his many friends, was always proud of his Red Row roots. After a brief stint in the coal mines, not for him, he headed out “Down the Road” for Montreal and a new life. Dad always seemed to be able to adapt and learn new things and soon got a job in the radiator business and before long he learned the printing trade. Of course, the biggest thing he found in Montreal was another Maritimer, my Mom Florence and they would be married for 52 years.

Over those years, Dad worked at many jobs, a restaurant owner, rental equipment owner, and in the bar business, all out West. With the arrival of the Grandchildren, he and Mom came home, where he operated a gas station and then retirement. Dad and Mom attended as many of our dances as they could, to meet their friends and loved to dance.

Dad loved the outdoors and he was most happy when he was able to be in the woods, or on the water, hunting and fishing and he liked to recall various trips. He loved his home in Beaver Bank, his neighbours who helped both him and Mom through the years and his many Church Friends from the Sackville Independent Baptist Church. They were all so important to his new life and were so kind in his last days in hospital. Dad was proudly born again on November 22, 2022, as he started a new Christian life.

Dad will always be remembered by his son Frank (Nancy); grandchildren Emily (Steven) and Amy, and great grandchildren, Everett and Sybil; also nephews, Gary and Alan and niece Lori Esling. Dad was predeceased by his wife Florence and his sisters Helen and Elvine.

There will be a Funeral Service on Monday, December 22, 2025 at 11am with reception following at the Sackville Independent Baptist Church, 92 Beaver Bank Road, Lower Sackville.
