BEMBRIDGE, Elizabeth Joyce “Betty” (Morash) passed away peacefully at home — in her happy place — Monday, April 22, 2019. Born in Halifax, she was the daughter of the late John and Hilda Morash. She was pre-deceased by her sister, Margery (Gordon) Waterfield and parents-in-law, John (Jack) and Mary (Molly) Bembridge. As a graduate of Dalhousie University, she started her pharmacy career in Mahone Bay but quickly returned to her Dartmouth roots. She spent her career servicing the health and wellness needs of Dartmouth residents at Moffatt’s Pharmacy— always going above and beyond the call of duty which often included home baking, personal shopping, after hours delivery service, extended credit terms, and life counselling. Betty was not just a hard working community pharmacist and business owner, she was a Downtown Dartmouth landmark — committed to her patients, her staff, and the vitality of the Downtown core. Betty was the loving and devoted wife and business partner of Paul for 46 years. Paul never doubted who the real boss was in their relationship as Betty was one strong willed soul! Betty loved to travel (but the best part was always coming home), Friday lunch dates, crosswords, CBC Radio, Seaside FM, and a good game of Spades. She enjoyed time spent at the family cottage, adventures in New Hampshire, daily baking, a crowd around the dining room table, volunteering at the Dartmouth General Hospital, and was a dedicated and vibrant life-long member of St. James United Church. She was the happiest feeding a houseful of family and friends and found every occasion she could to host a crowd. Her children and grandchildren were the absolute light of her life. She was a doting mother to Shelly (Louis de Montbrun) of Bedford, John (Cat Abbott) of Lake Echo, and Nana to Keigan and Rowan Tulloch and Abby and Leighton Bembridge. Her grandchildren were the epicentre of her world and she always had fresh baking and their favourite indulgences ready for their visits. She enjoyed watching them grow up and unconditionally supported their passion pursuits, proudly celebrating their milestones, talents, and accomplishments. Betty was a beloved sister-in-law to Anthony and Carolyn (Yellowknife), PJ and Joe (Dartmouth), Michael and Marion (Moncton), Stephen and Judy (Dartmouth), Fred (Montreal) and had a very special bond with her nieces Kate Butler (Jim), Joy Scharf (Ray), and Sue Morgan (Guy) all of Ottawa. She was a special Auntie to many nieces and nephews and leaves behind an extended family woven across Canada who will all greatly miss her graceful presence in their lives. A celebration of Betty’s life will be held on Saturday, April 27th at 2PM at St. James United Church in Dartmouth with a reception to follow in A. L. Mattatall Funeral Home, 217 Portland Street. Betty’s passing will leave a huge void in this world as she touched the lives of so many with her generous heart, kind soul, and sweet baking. Family flowers only. Donations may be made to the Dartmouth General Hospital or Saint James United Church. The family asks that you do something kind for someone else in Betty’s honour. Take the time to reach out to a neighbour or someone in need…the world needs more people with generous and loving hearts like Betty’s. Small acts of kindness really do make a difference. Betty was a beautiful soul. I had the pleasure of working for her at Moffatts Pharmacy. She was so kind to all the staff and customers, she was the best pharmacist ever. The doctors would even call on her for advice. She also helped us out tremendously with medications when my mom was ill and we so much appreciated her advice. Our thoughts and prayers are with Paul and his family at this time. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her and loved her especially her grandchildren who she cherished so much. We'll miss you Betty, RIP sweet angel!!! 🙏🕯🕯
