He married Myrna Nauss and loved and cared for her until the end of his life, and was a loving and caring father to Ken Nauss and Andrea Nauss, and a devoted grandfather to Bradley Nauss and Claire Nauss. He lived in Dartmouth for most of his life in the Woodlawn area.
Throughout his life, he was a caring, community-minded person who involved himself in many charitable causes, from raising money for the homeless and impoverished to supporting the sick and needy. He was a highly intelligent and organized person with great leadership skills, and he used his knowledge of finance to help many charitable causes through Woodlawn United and Saint Andrew’s United Church. He was a truly altruistic and generous soul who remained optimistic in the worst of times and always saw the best in people.
He had a great mind for business and finance during his 40-year career with CIBC. Starting as a bank teller at the Yarmouth CIBC branch, he worked his way up through increasingly senior positions to eventually work at CIBC’s main office in Halifax. There, he led a team that carefully and fairly reviewed credit applications from local branches across Atlantic Canada. Though he worked quietly behind the scenes—always his humble style—his role was vital in supporting business growth throughout the region. He approached this important responsibility with great care, fairness, and integrity, characteristics that defined both his professional and personal life. He was a hard worker who put great effort and efficient thinking into everything he did.
Human beings have a ripple effect on the world. Long after they are gone, we exist in a world that has been guided and shaped by the actions of those who came before us. On July 30th, 2025, we lost a great man whose actions undoubtedly left a positive ripple effect on the world, making it a better place in many ways. You may be gone, but you will never be forgotten.
There will be a Celebration of Life held at Woodlawn United Church in Dartmouth on August 8th, 2025, at 2:00pm, followed by a reception.
