NEVES, Celia Constance (Keeler) (Allan) “Connie” – of Dartmouth. It is with great sadness we announce the death of our mother, grandmother and great grandmother on July 8 2018 at age 95. Connie was born in Chilliwack, British Columbia in 1922 to Celia and Roger Allan. Her mother died from complications of childbirth and Connie was moved to Dartmouth at 1 year old to be raised by her grandparents Olivia and Ray Keeler. Connie first worked for Nova Scotia Light and Power on Commercial St. then later took a position as secretary at John Martin Jr High School where she worked for 22 years until she retired. Connie was a lifetime member of St James United Church and active in the UCW there for many years. She enjoyed camping and walking and the beauty of nature. She had a great love of poetry and had verse or rhyme in her head suitable for any and all occasions. Connie never felt she had a great sense of humour, but many people commented on it and enjoyed her quick wit. In 1952 Connie married the love of her life Eric Neves. They had dreams of retiring and traveling together but didn't get much opportunity before Eric fell ill and Connie cared for him until he died a few months short of their 50th anniversary. At some point Connie got in touch with Mark Hickman in British Columbia who is the grandson of the woman that looked after her for her first year of life. Mark and his family kept in touch over the years with letters and phone calls and Connie greatly appreciated that connection. Connie is survived by her children Roger (Louise) Neves, Truro and Janet (Roy) Stewart, Eastern Passage. Grandchildren Christine (Jason) Archibald, Eastern Passage, Margaret (Gilbert) Carrasco, Cole Harbour, Catherine (Michael) Jakeman, Eastern Passage, Keith Neves, Harmony. Great grandchildren, Cohen and Hunter Archibald Eastern Passage. Besides her husband Connie was predeceased by her parents, grandparents and half sister Dorothy Switzer. Many thanks to the staff at the Berkeley Dartmouth where Connie lived for most of the last five years and to the staff on the 6th floor at Northwood Center where she lived the last three months. Funeral will be held at 11am Friday, July 13, in A. L. Mattatall Funeral Home in Dartmouth with reception to follow. Then interment at Memorial Gardens beside Eric. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Heart and Stroke Foundation or charity of your choice. Online condolences may be sent to: www.mattatallfuneralhome.com
