

While working as a dozer operator for Atlas Construction on the Bedford Institute, Charles was offered a position which he accepted and worked at the Bedford Institute of Oceanography as Station Engineer from its opening day until retiring in 1988. During this time Charles also ran a farm up until the mid 1970’s. He was an avid vegetable gardener, growing many varieties of potatoes. He looked forward to the fall when he made sauerkraut “the old fashioned way”. Charles was first and foremost a family man who enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Una (McEachern) Rose; son, Charles “Chuck” (MaryAnn), Bartlett, IL; daughter, Nancy (Chris Pink), Dartmouth; brothers, George, West Chezzetcook, Harvey (Nancy), East Chezzetcook, David (Betty), Admiral Rock; sisters Lilly Glendenning, Moncton NB,and Sarah ( Gordon) Porter, Charlottetown PEI; grandchildren, Nicole (Pa’s bean grower extraordinaire and right hand shaving helper), Charlie ( Pa’s only grandson and namesake), Rhiannon (Pa’s #1 right hand gardener), Shelby ( Pa’s cow girl and the fartin Pixie); step granddaughters, Angelina and Vicki; step great grandson, Haddon; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brothers, Reginald and James; sisters, Blanche Fraser and Mary McCulloch.
Memorial service will be held on Tuesday October 9th at 11am in A.L. Mattatall Funeral Home, 217 Portland Street, Dartmouth. A private family burial will follow in Mount Hermon Cemetery.
