Claire Margaret Murphy

Born in Halifax July 21, 1936 to Edmund and Myrtle (Sheehan) Landry, she attended St. Thomas Aquinas School and the Convent of the Sacred Heart before attending St. Francis Xavier University (B.A) and Mount St. Vincent University (B.Ed).

While Claire did teach at a variety of schools in the Halifax area, her main life role was that of stay at home mother raising her three children in Dartmouth. She was happiest watching her children and grandchildren as they participated in their various activities or traveling around the province with her sister Barb. For many years, she enjoyed lunching and bookclub with treasured friends. Claire loved spending time at the family cottage at Caribou Island. As an avid Toronto Blue Jays fan, she made every effort to watch all their games.

She always enjoyed meeting people and finding out their stories which was her way until the end.

Claire is survived by her children, Alanna (Don MacLellan), Shauna (Daniel Roache), Jim (Jennifer Feron); her grandchildren, Maggie and Katie MacLellan, Mark and Tommy Roache, and Maura and Ella Murphy. She is also survived by her nephew, Daniel Tramble (Michelle) and his children as well as many dear cousins, nieces and nephews.

As well as her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles and her sister Barbara Tramble. She was also predeceased by her infant grandson Matthew MacLellan, sister-in-law, Kathleen Mullane, and brothers-in-law, T.D (Donnie)Tramble and Cyril (Tink) Mullane.

The family would like to express its heartfelt thanks to the wonderful staff of Parkland at the Common for the warmth, respect and care they provided to Claire in her final months.

Funeral Service will be held at St. Thomas Aquinas Church , 1725 Oxford St. Halifax, N.S., on Saturday September 26th, 2026 at 10:00 AM, with reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests if so inclined, donations be made to a charity of your choice.
