Claude Joseph Pierre Smith (Smitty) passed peacefully in his 88th year in Dartmouth Nova Scotia on Sunday the 27 of September 2026. Born in Montreal Quebec, Smitty lived a full life with his wife Mary of 59 1/2 years.
Smitty was a proud veteran who served with the Royal Canadian Navy for 35 years, retiring as a Chief Petty Officer. He was posted to a number of ships where he travelled the world serving his country.
Predeceased by his sister Alice, Smitty leaves to mourn his wife Mary (nee Wesley), his son Brent Kraushar(Kim), his grandsons Kai and Eli, his niece Elizabeth Wesley, nephew Ken Wesley, cousin Lisa as well as his close friends Ron, Christine, Ruth, Rae and Alain.
A celebration of life will be held on 31 October 2026, commencing at 11 am.
The family would like to send their sincere appreciation to the staff at the Dartmouth General Hospital, 5 East wing, for their caring and support while Smitty was in their care.
