Born in Lower L’Ardoise, Cape Breton, she was the daughter of Harold (Hap) and Evangeline (Sampson) Hanson. She always held dear the place of her birth and spent many happy days there. Like her mother, she was blessed with the gift of gab which meant there were no strangers in her life. It is said that once she learned to talk, she never stopped.
A lover of country music, Debbie started singing as soon as she could talk and at the age of four, she entertained family and friends with a perfect rendition of the Tennessee Waltz.
Possessed with a spirit of adventure, Debbie travelled far and wide with her husband and on her own. Together, they visited every continent on earth except Asia, which was on her bucket list up to the time of her passing.
Although Debbie never had children of her own, she was very fond of and interested in the lives of her niece, Adriane and two nephews, Evan and Lyle and their children. An animal lover, she shared her life with numerous dogs through the years, all cocker spaniels except for one shih tzu.
Debbie is survived by her husband of 59 years, John (Jay) Campbell and her two sisters, Juanita Healy and Robyn (Ron) Peterson. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her brother in law, Michael Healy.
In keeping with Debbie’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Her ashes will be returned to Lower L’Ardoise, the place of her birth, for a graveside service and interment with her parents.
