Donna was an outgoing and accomplished woman who wore many hats and never stopped pursuing further knowledge. She graduated from Laurentian University in 1975 with a BA in comparative religion. She obtained many more diplomas and qualifications in her time, including from the Institute of Canadian Bankers, international correspondence schools, and the Tourism Industry Association of Nova Scotia. Her bedroom walls are packed with recognitions of her achievements and photos of her loved ones.
Donna met her would-be husband Clive Bishop while on vacation in Antigua. They hit it off right away, maintained a relationship via correspondence, and were married November 1st, 1986. She loved her husband unconditionally and unflinchingly. They had 2 children together, Kathryn and Olivia Bishop. In 1995 the family moved to Nova Scotia.
Donna juggled raising her children with full time work, at one point owning and operating her own business, as well as teaching Sunday school, volunteering as a girl guide leader, and many more pursuits. In 2003 she moved to Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.
Donna was committed to her community. She was a founding member of the Between the Bridges Residents Roundtable, serving on various BtB Network teams over the years including the Community Grant Insight Team and the Community Capacity & Skill Building Team. She also volunteered as a member of the Dartmouth North Community Health Planning Team and was recently elected to the Board of the Farrell Benevolent Society.
Donna was a regular and beloved participant in weekly Zoom Socials, which began during the first Covid lock-down as a way for a small group of local residents to get together, play trivia games, share some laughs, and reduce the effects of social isolation. Over the past two years a special bond formed among that group as they supported each other through many ups and downs. Donna will be deeply missed by them all.
Donna is survived by her husband of 35 years, her two daughters, and countless friends. Though her mobility was limited, and overall physical health had declined, she was the happiest she had ever been. She was more in love with her husband than the day they married. She was just 66 years old. She will never be forgotten.
