YOUNG, Edward “Ted” Austin - Age 85, Ted passed away June 18, 2016 in Dartmouth General Hospital, he was the son of the late Edward and Essie Marie (Mason) Young. Ted started his career in the RCMP working as an engineer on patrols going to NFLD, he changed careers and became a DND firefighter for 35 years, retiring as Captain. Ted was born in Halifax, lived in the south end for many years, went to Tower Road School and enjoyed being “next door” to Point Pleasant Park during his childhood. He loved to fish and hunt and did so every chance he got, often at his camp in Country Harbour, Ted and Neila traveled to Alaska several times, Arizona, NFLD and Florida. He enjoyed life to the fullest for many years before having his first stroke several years ago. He came to live at the Parkland in Halifax, then Dartmouth to be closer to his son, he was treated like family at Jamieson Hall and this made his remaining time very comfortable. He is survived by his son; Jim (Pam), granddaughter; Taryn, daughter; Kim (Gerald) Young-Ward, grandson; John, sister; Margaret (Don) Hatcher, nephews; Bob (Linda) and Scott (Michelle), niece; Cindy (Gordon), Ted's first wife; Elsie (Anderson) Young; best lifelong friend, Gordon Perk's. Ted is predeceased by his sister Gladys, second wife; Neila (MacKeigan) and brother; Robert “Bob”. In keeping with Ted's wishes he has been cremated and we will be holding a celebration of life on July 17th at the Eastern Passage Fire Hall at 1809 Caldwell Rd. from 1-3pm. Donations can be made to the heart and stroke foundation. Thank you to all the doctors and nurses at the Dartmouth General ICU.
