

MENNIE, Gerald E. – of Dartmouth, NS passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on November 2, 2017 in the Dartmouth General Hospital. Born in Ottawa, he was the son of the late Alley and Noëlla (Sicard) Mennie. Gerald retired after 36 years of service with Public Works and Government Services Canada in Leasing. He enjoyed reading many newspapers, talking politics and writing letters to the editor with same being published. He was the best uncle ever to his many nieces/nephews and will be missed by many friends and co-workers. He is survived by his loving wife Betty (Mills) Mennie, brother; Donald Mennie, sisters; Pearl (Gaston) Marinier, Evelyn (Jack) Reid, Jocelyne (Frank) Gendron, Donaline (Ron) Desjardins, Greta Hicks, Gail Pommainville, sister in-laws Debbie (Jack) O’Bryant and Sandra (Doug) Rowbottom, special Godchildren; Kimberley Dow and Donnie Mennie, several nieces and nephews. Special pups Snookie and Patches who brought him great joy. Honourary pallbearers Nathan Dow, Joe McEachern, Jimmy Davidson, Randy Davidson, Yvon Sicard, Donnie Mennie, Jack O’Bryant and Ron Bugbee. He is predeceased by sisters Kathleen deVarennes, Carole Mennie and brother; Garry Mennie. Visitation will take place on Tuesday, November 7, from 10 am – 12pm with a Memorial service at 12pm in A. L. Mattatall Funeral Home, 217 Portland Street. Rev. Roland Murray officiating. Burial in Mount Hermon Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Feed Nova Scotia or your local food bank.
