

Ivy Barbara Oldford Hamilton, 94 years young, passed away early on May 28, 2015. She grew up in the beautiful seaside village of Red Cliffe, NL. Ivy is predeceased by her husband Ray, son Ray, her loving parents Frederick and Virtue Oldford, sister Triffinia, brothers Rex (Beth), Augustus and Jack (Pearl). She is survived by daughter Patricia (Jim), son Mark (Craig), daughter-in-law Cathy, granddaughter Sarah, grandsons Matthew (Angela), Jonathan (Jessie), Joshua, Mark (Natalie), and great grandsons Jackson and Ocean. Ivy had a wonderful childhood in Newfoundland full of fond memories. Ivy worked for the war effort in Preston (Cambridge), Ontario briefly in World War 2. She met her future husband Ray in St. John’s, NL., during the War and married him in Halifax in 1945. They moved to Dartmouth in 1956 where Ivy lived until her passing. Ivy was a dedicated volunteer with the Royal Canadian Legion Somme Branch Ladies Auxiliary, Woodlawn Food Bank, St. Luke’s Anglican Church and many other organizations. Ivy learned to drive in her early 40’s and lived independently well into her 80’s. She was an ardent walker who went out daily in the wee hours. Ivy loved to return home to Newfoundland to visit family and friends. She was an beautiful singer and a member of St. Luke’s Church Choir for over 40 years. She continued to enjoy singing in her later years at Oakwood Terrace Nursing Home, Dartmouth. Ivy was a devoted mother and grandmother who put family first above all else. She enjoyed many family trips to places such as New England, Ontario, California and Utah. Service to be held Monday, June 1 at 9:00 a.m. at St. Luke’s Anglican Church, Veterans Avenue, Dartmouth followed by tea/social. Interment at 3:30 p.m. at St. Paul’s United Church cemetery, Carleton Village, Shelburne County, Nova Scotia.
