Jean Elizabeth Margaret Stevens Coombes

COOMBES, Jean Elizabeth Margaret – 78 , of Dartmouth passed away peacefully at the Dartmouth General Hospital on December 6, 2011 after bravely and stoically enduring a second bout of cancer. Born in Montreal she was the daughter of the late William and Margaret (Edwards) Stevens. Jean was a faithful, hard working and enthusiastic Member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Grand Chapter of Nova Scotia & Prince Edward Island, Queen Esther Chapter No. 61, since March 7th, 1978. She served many Offices including Worthy Matron 1986 – 1987 & 2006-2007, and Chapter Secretary 2006 to 2011. She was also appointed Grand Martha 1990/91, and Grand Representative of the Grand Chapter of Texas near the Grand Chapter of Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island 1996-1998. She was a member of Woodlawn United Church where she had served as an Elder and Brownie and Guide Leader as well as singing in the Choir. A devoted Wife, Mother, and loving Grandmother, her happy, always cheerful outlook and caring and willing manner will be greatly missed, especially by her devoted Husband Reg whose life must now find new purpose. Survived by her loving Husband, loving Partner, and Friend of 57 years, sons Steven and his Partner Ludmila (Shackleton, SK), and William(Bill) and his Wife Barbara(Lower Onslow), Daughters Susan and her Husband Duncan Karsten (Kingston, N.S.) and Dianne and her Husband Yves Chamberland (Shannon, QC). She was pre-deceased by her teen-aged Daughter Nancy Jean in September 1977. Visitation will be 6-8 pm Friday December 9, An Easter Star Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, December 10, 2011 with a Memorial Service to follow all in A. L. Mattatall Funeral Home 217 Portland Street. Rev. Phillip Kennedy officiating. Burial to take place in Woodlawn Cemetery. No flowers by request but a donation to the Childrens’ Wish Foundation or your favourite charity would be appreciated.
