John Harrison Ingram passed away at Halifax Hospice, August 8th, with his loving family by his side after failing health slowed him down. Jack was born in Boston, Mass. on May 6, 1931. At three months of age he arrived in Saint John, NB where he grew up and went to school. He graduated from Rothesay/Netherwood School in Rothesay, NB in 1950. He attended UNB before joining the Fed. Dept. Fisheries and Oceans (Fresh water &Anderomous Div. – Fisheries Research) in Saint John. In 1961, Jack and family were transferred to Halifax; in 1962 they moved to Dartmouth, where they still reside. Jack took up curling as a winter sport and was very active in the Dartmouth Curling Club serving on the Entertainment Committee for a few years. Every November he looked forward to the Monctonian Curling Spiel as a member of the Mattatall Marvels. Off the ice this group were known as the 4 Wheel Drive and played for different functions along with entertaining at a few Nursing Homes. He and his family enjoyed trailering and belonged to the Down East Coasters. When his two boys became involved in cubs, scouts and venturers, Jack became a Venture leader taking a group to a National Jamboree in Kananaskis, AB one summer. Whatever his boys enjoyed doing playing, Jack was always there to support them no matter the time. He is a past member of the Masonic Lodge and of the Stamp Club, and enjoyed his hunting time with pals.
When he retired he took up golfing and was known as one of the Dartmouth Duffers
at the Brookfield Golf Club. He and his wife (Kathy) enjoyed travelling to new destinations, cruising or just relaxing in Florida. When the grandchildren became involved in sports, it kept him busy attending their different activities. Jack was the only child of Ronald and Marion Ingram and is survived by his wife of 64 years (Kathy); 2 sons Lewis (Lana Crewe) Ft. McMurray, AB and Paul (Sarah Reaburn) Dartmouth, NS., 6 grandsons – Christopher (Laura Trout), Hinton, AB; Justin (Ashley), Ft. McMurray, AB.; Byron (Alyssa Marks) Toronto, ON ; Jeremy, Joel and Taylor, all in Dartmouth, NS. and his only granddaughter, Kailee (Tony Huffman), Ft. McMurray, AB. And 5 great grandchildren – Edwin, Ivy, Toronto; Charles and Gabriel Huffman, and Ellie all in Ft. McMurray, AB.
He was predeceased by his father, mother , stepmother Eileen and his in-laws Gertrude and Alvin Williams. Due to Covid-19 attendance will be by invite only on Thursday, August 13th at Mattatall`s Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. P.A McDonald conducting the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Halifax Hospice (hospicehalifax.ca), Multiple Sclerosis (mssociety.ca), St. Andrew`s Presbyterian Church Dartmouth. Interment will be in Mt. Hermon Cemetery.
