Age 85, passed away peacefully in Dartmouth on June 6, 2019. He was born in Toronto to the late Perezel and Helen (Munro) Pearce. John obtained his Masters in Math and Physics at the University of Toronto on his path to becoming a Meteorologist. His career in which he served with distinction for many years would lead him to Nova Scotia. There he met his wife of 47 years at a Sports Car Club meeting. John devoted much time and energy to the consumer advocacy group Transport Action which promotes public transportation, especially passenger trains of which he was very fond. The United Church was also a focus of John’s life and he was a fixture in the congregation and choir of St. Matthew’s for many decades. John is survived by sister, Judith (John); wife, Karen; sons, Ian (Maria) and Lorne (Laura); grandchildren, Stella and Owen. Visitation will be held on Monday, June 10th from 2-4pm & 6-8pm in A. L. Dear Karen and family,
It was fitting that our mutual dear friends, Diane and Jim, informed me this morning, of John's death. You and he were so welcoming to Bob and myself in our move to Halifax-Dartmouth for our six, wonderful years there. I fondly remember waving to you and John from our front window to yours, directly across Oathill Lake. We enjoyed getting to know John and thus, all of you, better since our fathers were career- long teaching colleagues. The many activities that John enjoyed remain in my memory, these near forty years later - St. Matthews U.C. , car rallies, transportation issues and of course the Met Service, that really twigged Bob's common interest. I send you my warmest wishes and hugs at this time of loss. Blessings to you, Ian and Lorne.

Hi Karen and family...so sorry to hear of John’s passing. We have fond memories of you both while you were ministering in Ste Croix / Ardoise and also as neighbours. So enjoyed his musical talents and for his sharing of them by joining us in the choir. And the car rally he organized as a fundraiser for the churches in the pastoral charge was fun! fun! fun! He is now safe in the arms of Jesus and probably singing with my Mom in the choir. May you gather as a family and find great comfort in all your many memories. Love and prayers always. - Garnet and Carolyn xoxo

Dear Karen, Ian and Lorne,
John was a very special friend to us; we first met at the Atlantic Sports Car Club after moving to Halifax in 1971. And we also got to know Karen soon after! Curt teamed up with John in the regional rally series for the next few years and also assisted with the Highlands National rally that John was instrumental in organizing year after year. I think in those days we were on the back-roads of Nova Scotia more often than we were at home! John was focused and passionate about the sport, but equally as passionate about his meteorologic work and his family. Our families were young and fortunately forgiving.; in the photo John is reviewing the instructions on the baby food can (a lot like rally instructions) while Ian patiently waits and our daughter Marcy watches!
We have many great memories of those early years, but also later in life as we kept in touch. Our deepest condolences and love.

Hello Karen and family. My sincerest sympathy on John's passing. I trust being together as a family with loving memories will give you peace and comfort at this difficult time. I gather John was an avid gardener from the beautiful power point presentation that accompanied his obituary. Parkinson's Society is a charity close to my heart, my husband passed away with complications from PD. I have given a donation in John's name.
