

It is with heavy hearts and sadness that we announce the passing of Joseph Yvon Poirier, age 72, of Eastern Passage, on October 18, 2025. Born in Cheticamp, he was the son of the late Mina (Deveau) Poirier and Melvin Poirier.
Joe (Yvon), aka Grandpa Joe, is survived by his children, Tammy Carter (Robert) and Daniel Poirier (Shona), and his cherished grandchildren, Jaten Daniel Poirier Smith and Addison Lily Poirier, his brothers and sisters, Honora Comeau, Jules Poirier, Julia MacKay, Stanley Poirier, Stella Camus, Monique Poirier, Jacqueline Aucoin, Simonne Aucoin, and Alexis Poirier, and many nieces and nephews, and his furry friends Chucky, Sasha and Pablo (predeceased). Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his brother Ernest Poirier.
Grandpa Joe was a father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, and a friend. He was a devoted family man and loved his grandchildren dearly. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards, and spending time with his grandchildren, family, and friends, especially Larry MacNeil. He also enjoyed home cooked meals, Acadian meat pie, deer meat, and bologna. He retired from the International Longshoremen’s Association as stevedore/longshoremen.
Joe will be deeply missed by all who knew him and forever remembered for his kindness, humour, laughter, easy-going, strength and for his love of life.
Cremation will occur and a private graveside service (immediate family only) will be held at St. Peter’s Cemetery, Cheticamp at 11:00 am on Tuesday, October 28, 2025. A small luncheon will follow at 12 pm at the Knights of Columbus, 13956 Cabot Trail, Cheticamp.
A celebration of life for all family and friends will take place at the Poirier home in Eastern Passage for all to drop in and out any time after 2pm, until late, on Saturday, November 1, 2025 at 83 Astour Drive, Eastern Passage, NS. Everyone is welcome to attend.
As Grandpa Joe would say, “It’s all good!”
