Joyce Stewart

Joyce Stewart of Dartmouth, NS passed away on August 26th at Dartmouth General, Palliative Care Unit. Born in Central Chebogue, she was the daughter of John Douglas Gallagher and Alfreda Belle Nickerson.

Mom was the last “Stewart” of the “Silent Generation” 1932. She and Dad were hit with the travel bug in their 40’s. They loved Bermuda and Cuba and spent a lot of time in both areas. Excursions to Europe and Africa appeared on their agenda as well!

They loved and appreciated their family and looked forward to each and every occasion to spent time with them. A talking Stick was always passed around, and family members were encouraged to state a point of appreciation in their lives!

She was predeceased by her husband Harold Douglas and infant daughter Cynthia Ann.

She is survived by sons, Michael (Nancy) and Barry (Paulette) grandchildren; Andrew (Marina), Timothy, and Brittany (Graeme), Patrick, and Ariel; great-grandchildren; Iziah, Maggie Blake, Cullen and Nora Jean; nephews: Steven, Marc and Peter; nieces; Debbie and Pam.

An interment will take place at 1pm on Saturday, July 11, 2026 at the Chebogue Cemetery in Yarmouth.
