Linda C. E. Palmer

PALMER, Linda Cherylle Elaine, 28, Passed away suddenly on November 1 while scuba diving near Sambro Island. She was the daughter of Shirley and Fred Palmer of Dartmouth. Linda led an active and varied life. She attended Ellenvale Junior High School and Prince Andrew High School where her passion was playing tuba in the school and All City bands. She enjoyed downhill skiing, sailing, hiking and was an avid softball player for Woodlawn teams in local and provincial tournaments. She graduated from Dalhousie University with a B.Sc. degree in Marine Biology and developed a consuming interest in Scuba diving. She was an instructor level diver with experience in ocean diving on various wrecks off the coast. Linda also obtained a B.Ed. degree from Mount St. Vincent University to become a math and science teacher. She taught briefly in the Halifax region and at the Calgary Academy in Alberta. Her love of the ocean and her family brought her back to Nova Scotia to dive, sail and teach. Linda’s positive, kind and giving nature was reflected in her daily life with family, friends, co-workers and students. She was always there for comfort when needed and also to have a good time and a good laugh. Linda initiated an Annual Dive Treasure Hunt to benefit the Children’s Wish Foundation and participated in multiple charity fund raising events. She touched everyone she knew and will be sadly missed by her family and many, many friends

She is survived by her parents, sisters Lorraine Colpitts (Gordon) and Lisa Wilcox (Tony) in Dartmouth, brother David (Myrna Shaw-Palmer) in Atlanta, Georgia and nieces and nephews Nick, Alex, Matt, Kristie, Brett, Corey, Mason and Jacqueline.

Visitation will be held 7 - 9 PM Friday, November 7 at A. L. Mattatall Funeral Home, 217 Portland Street, Dartmouth.

A celebration of Linda's life will be held 2 PM on Saturday, November 8, 2008 at the MicMac Club 192, Prince Albert Road, Dartmouth.
