

MacDONNELL, M. Muriel— 83, of Dartmouth. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Muriel, of Dartmouth on February 6, 2011, surrounded by her family. Originally from Pictou, Muriel was a daughter of the late George and Johanna (MacDonald) Chambers. She was an active and devoted member of St. Clements Church and the CWL. She was a long-time employee and retiree of Dartmouth City Hall. Muriel was an avid and active member of Hartlen Point Golf Club for many years, enjoyed bowling, bridge, curling and golf trips to Florida with friends and family. Predeceased by her husband of 40 years, Byron MacDonnell, Sr.; granddaughter, Kirsten Hollis; and sister, Catherine Irving (of Pictou). Muriel is survived by her son, Byron (Lucille) MacDonnell of Oxford; daughter, Margot (Randy) Hollis of Dartmouth; grandsons, Sean MacDonnell, Dartmouth; Mark (Julie) MacDonnell of Leamington; granddaughters, Eryn (Hollis) (Scott) McDonell, Ottawa; Kathryn Hollis, Ottawa; niece, Georgina Irving, New Glasgow; also survived by sisters-in-law, Alice MacDonnell, Adeline (MacDonnell) Lynch and Doreen MacDonnell all of Sydney. Visitation in A.L. Mattatall Funeral Home, 217 Portland St., Dartmouth on Wednesday, February 9 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Funeral mass in St. Clements Parish, Gaston Road, Dartmouth on Thursday, February 10 at 10 a.m., Father Gilbert Bertrand, OMI officiating. Reception to follow in the church hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Society of Nova Scotia, IWK Health Centre Foundation or charity of choice.
