The centre of our universe crumbled December 6th, 2014 with the passing of Margaret Isobel Horner (MacDonald), Dartmouth, NS at the QE II Infirmary as a result of complications following cardio vascular surgery. At the time of her death she was surrounded by her devoted and loving family.
Margie, the youngest daughter of the late Edward Michael and Cordellia (Booth) MacDonald was born in Halifax on Groundhog Day February 2nd, 1946.
Margie was a true “North” Woodsider and proud of it. She was an excellent example of “being able to take the girl out of Woodside but not the Woodside out of the girl!”
She was educated at North Woodside School, Halifax Ladies College and Maritime Secretarial Academy winning the Underwood Gold Medal for typing. She was employed as a secretary and teller with The Royal Bank of Canada and Customer Service Representative with the Bank of Montreal. However, her real occupation in life and labor of love was a soul mate to Clyde and being an attentive mother to her girls Suzanne and Joanne and grandmother to Spencer.
Margie was a forth right, loving and caring person and a true champion of the underdog. She was always the first one there when someone needed her and didn’t hesitate to voice her opinion on any and all subjects she was passionate about. She had a genuine love for camping which began at Sherwood Forest over 40 years ago and she resumed the activity this past summer. She is survived by her doting husband Clyde, daughters Suzanne, Dartmouth and Joanne Murphy (Brian) and her grandson Spencer of Three Fathom Harbor and sister Thelma Robb of Falmouth, NS; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Cremation has taken place. Visiting hours will be held at A.L. Mattatall Funeral Home, 217 Portland Street, 2pm to 4 pm and 6 pm to 8 pm on Wednesday, December 10th, 2014. Funeral Service will be held Thursday, December 11th, 10am at St. Peters Roman Catholic Church, 10 Maple Street with Father Jim Richards officiating. A reception will follow in the Parish Center. Family flowers only and donations in Margie’s memory may be made to St. Peters Church, Canadian Red Cross, Hope Cottage or a charity of your choice. Interment will be in Mount Hermon Cemetery.
Simply put, “Margie was our life and soul, and will be missed and loved forever”
