Born in Kent, England on April 29, 1937, Marilyn was the daughter of the late Leonard and Rose Middleton of Kent, England. She was the loving wife of Harry “Roy” Wilcox for 68 years.
Early on in her career, Marilyn was a Junior Importer/Exporter, a receptionist with JM Murphy and a Switchboard Operator. She and Roy immigrated to Canada in 1957 to start a new life in Winnipeg, Manitoba where they had their two sons, Stephen and Tony. Roy and Marilyn then moved to Dartmouth, NS in 1966 when Roy got a new job working for MT&T and a new addition, daughter Linda.
Marilyn now as a fulltime homemaker, was a very active volunteer in her community. She volunteered with ESL (English as a Second Language) in Dartmouth and at Harbourview School nursery for several years. She was very active with ringette, where she was the President of Dartmouth Ringette Association and the President of Ringette Nova Scotia for many years.
Marilyn was an avid reader, enjoyed cake decorating, travelling, and watching her favorite shows, Coronation Street and General Hospital. She was known for her famous ginger cookies, which were her family’s favorite.
Marilyn loved to knit, and her grandchildren were the recipients of her beautiful toques and mitts. Perhaps most impressive was her ability to knit beautiful dolls and toys for her grandchildren which will be cherished forever.
Family was very important to Marilyn. She enjoyed hosting family for Sunday night roast beef dinners. Later in life, Marilyn loved staying in touch with family over regular video calls as well as playing cards with family on Sunday afternoons at her home.
She was always there to cheer on her children with their various sports and then later when her grandchildren played hockey, ringette, soccer and baseball. She was very proud of all their accomplishments!
Marilyn moved to Bissett Court Nursing Home a few years ago. She thoroughly enjoyed the friendships she made there with staff and residents and loved all the activities they provided. The family wish to extend our sincerest thanks to the staff at Bissett Court for the amazing care she received there.
Marilyn is survived by her loving husband, Roy; sons, Stephen (Stephanie) Wilcox, Tony Wilcox and daughter, Linda (Peter) Wright; grandchildren: Brent Wilcox, Adam Wilcox, Kristie Wilcox, Brett (Meg) Wilcox, Corey Wilcox, Ben Wright and Nicole Wright and great-granddaughter, Charlotte Wilcox. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Marcelle Middleton and Doreen Wilcox, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, David Middleton.
She was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who will be deeply missed by all.
The family of Marilyn would like to invite you to celebrate her life with a reception at A.L. Mattatall Funeral Home, 217 Portland Street, Dartmouth, NS on Saturday, September 6th from 1-3 pm.
