

RILEY, Melvin Leon – 70, of Lake Loon Road passed away March 22, 2011 in the Dartmouth General Hospital. Born on May 20, 1940, he was the son of the late Howard and Kathleen (Beals) Riley. He is survived by his wife Laura (Downey) Riley of 49 years, daughters, Patricia (Higginbotham), Dartmouth, Juliette ( Goddard ), Halifax, Laura (Mike) Campbell, Brampton, Kathleen (Dwayne) Hopkinson, Jersey City, Sharon Downey North Preston raised by Melvin and Laura; sons, Brayon (Christina), Dartmouth, Donald (Jessica), Halifax; sisters, Joan Provo, Janice Grant, Lake Loon, Gloria (Wayne) Johnson, North Carolina; brothers, Percy (Leota), Clarence (Irma), Howard (Evelyn) all of Lake Loon; 11 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Godchildren, Brigid and Brogan Harris and Sylvia Riley considered as a daughter. Melvin was a faithful member of the Cherry Brook United Baptist Church, Brotherhood and the Gospel Fellowship Choir. He was a drywaller, auto mechanic, carpenter, woodsman, welder, and jack-of-all-trades. He worked for Harbour Construction for a number of years. He also was a successful businessman/farmer for a number of years, and an avid hunter. He was predeceased by sisters Rosella and Daisy and brother, Lloyd. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to A.L. Mattatall Funeral Home, 217 Portland Street, Dartmouth, NS. Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at 1:00PM, in Cherry Brook United Baptist Church with Rev. Wayne Desmond officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday, March 29th, 7-9 PM at the church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
