

NEWTON, Michael A. — 66 of Dartmouth, passed away peacefully with his loving family at his side on January 2, 2013, in the Halifax Infirmary, QEII. Born in Ottawa, he was a son of the late Cecil and Mary (Docherty) Newton. Michael lived and worked photography most of his life. Currently he was employed by Auction City (Manheim Auctions) in Lower Sackville and Enterprise Car Rentals at the airport division. Michael is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Arline (Jennings); sons, Michael and Courtney, both of Dartmouth; daughters, Bernadette (Allen) Fraser and Michelle Newton, both of Dartmouth; brothers, Peter (Charlene), Thomas (Caroline) of Bridgetown; Robert of Dartmouth; sisters, Joan (David) Allen, Annapolis Royal; Edie Newton (Eugene Organ), Conception Bay South, N.L.; Cathy Ramsay, Brantford, Ont.; Gladys Newton, Bridgetown; grandchildren, Courtney, Mickah, Michaela, Ashley, Devynne, Allen, Seth, Laurin and Lincoln; great-grandchildren, Jerel and newborn Antonio; as well as an abundance of nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by his brothers, Daniel and Issac. Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 6, from 1-3 and 6-8 p.m. in A. L. Mattatall Funeral Home, 217 Portland St., Dartmouth. Funeral mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, January 8, from St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church, 10 Maple St., Dartmouth, Father Jim Richards officiating. Interment will be in St. Alphonsus Roman Catholic Cemetery, Bridgetown. Family flowers only. Donations may be made to the Shiners or a children's charity of choice.
