Samuel Joseph Yanofsky

YANOFSKY, Samuel Joseph - It is with sadness we announce the passing of Samuel Yanofsky of Halifax, NS on August 3, 2022 at the age of 86. He was the devoted husband to his wife Anne Yanofsky for 52 years and was heartbroken at her earlier passing in January 2018. Sam passed away peacefully at the QEII Health Sciences Centre in Halifax. Born in Halifax, NS on December 11, 1935, he was the son of Isadore "Issie" and Golda "Goldie" (Glick) Yanofsky.

Sam is survived by his two children Kirk (Joy) of Dartmouth NS and Tara Lee of Halifax NS. Known as Zadie to his beloved grandchildren Thane, Paige and Fife. He was wonderful with children and was honorary grandparent to the children of family friends Mike and Syliva Quinn – Katie, Sarah, Elizabeth, Daniel and Maureen.

Sam has a number of in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins in the local area and across Canada. Those being representative of the Yanofsky’s Cukier’s, Barrett’s and Glick’s.

Sam was a successful wedding and portrait professional photographer through the 60’s, 70’s & 80’s providing wonderful memories for many families. A body builder in his youth he returned to this activity with much energy in his middle years. His early dreams of being a pilot were thwarted by heath issues, however he never lost his love of flying. His introduction to computer gaming came through flight simulation games that he loved playing and recreating missions from pilot biographies. This grew over the years to other types of simulation games and was his main pursuit in his later years.

His family would like to extend thanks to the nurses and staff at the QEII, floors 7.1 and 8.1, who provided excellent care during his final weeks.

In keeping with Sam’s wishes there will be no visitation or funeral service. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory to the QEII Foundation, or a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
