It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Shane Joseph Laney on July 7, 2026, affectionately known to many as "Mr. Blue." Shane was born on July 23, 1975, and will be remembered for his kind heart, generous spirit, and unforgettable sense of humour.
Shane was predeceased by his beloved mother, Cheryl. He leaves behind his father, Joe Laney; his cherished children, Brandon, Hailey, and Hunter; along with many extended family members, friends, and everyone whose lives he touched.
Anyone who knew Shane knew they could count on him. He was the type of person who would truly give the shirt off his back to help someone in need. His warmth, compassion, and ability to make people laugh left a lasting impression on everyone he met.
A roofer by trade, Shane took great pride in his work and especially loved being part of Superior Roofing. He was hardworking, dedicated, and respected by those who worked alongside him.
Proud of his Newfoundland roots, Shane was known throughout his community for his unique expressions, quick wit, and infectious personality. His stories, sayings, and laughter will be remembered by many for years to come.
Shane always wanted to better himself and become the best version of who he could be. He faced a long battle with alcohol, a struggle that often overshadowed his hopes and goals. Those who loved him knew the caring, generous man behind that struggle and will remember him for the goodness he carried in his heart.
Shane's memory will live on through his family, his friends, and the countless lives he touched with his kindness, humour, and generosity. He will be deeply missed and forever loved.
A reception will be held on Monday, July 13, 2026 from 12-2 pm at A. L. Mattatall Funeral Home, 217 Portland Street, Dartmouth. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Atlantic Community Shelter Society.
