Born in Kingston, Jamaica, on July 1, 1972, Shawn lived a life marked by dedication, honesty, laughter and love. He proudly served in the Jamaica Defence Force for many years before making Halifax, Nova Scotia, his home. This is where he built a life centered on family, hard work, and community.
Shawn was a man who could always be counted on. Whether you needed a solution to a problem, a helping hand, or simply someone to listen, he was there. Those who knew Shawn will remember his jovial spirit, his honesty, and his willingness to speak his mind. His strong work ethic and dependable nature were evident throughout his career with Nova Scotia Community College (NSCC) and Canpar, where he earned the respect and friendship of colleagues and all who had the privilege of working alongside him.
Above all else, Shawn's greatest joy was his family. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Simone, and his cherished daughters, Monique, Shawna and Shaunavea, who were the light of his life and the source of his greatest pride. He is also lovingly remembered by his parents, Norma and Wilton, his grandparents, Leonard and Cherry, his sisters, Latoya and Selena, niece Tia, and a large circle of aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and loved ones across Canada, Jamaica and the USA.
Shawn had a larger-than-life personality that could brighten any room, he was jovial and had a gift for making people laugh. His laughter was contagious, his presence comforting, and his friendship genuine.
One of Shawn's greatest expressions of love was through food. An exceptional cook, he found joy in bringing people together around the table. Whether he was preparing meals for Jamaica Day celebrations, family gatherings, community events, or a simple Sunday dinner, Shawn poured his heart into every dish. His meals nourished not only the body but also the spirit, creating memories that will be treasured for years to come.
The family extends their sincere gratitude to the paramedics and the compassionate team at the Dartmouth General Hospital Emergency Department for the care, kindness, and support they provided during a difficult time.
While our hearts ache with his absence, we find comfort in the countless memories he leaves behind. The laughter shared, the wisdom offered, the meals prepared with love, and the many lives he touched through his kindness and generosity.
A Celebration of Shawn's Life will be held at the United Pentecostal Church of Dartmouth, 293 Main St. Dartmouth, Nova Scotia on June 20, 2026, at 11AM with a second celebration planned in Jamaica (date to be announced), allowing family and friends to lay his body to rest, and honor his remarkable life.
In lieu of flowers, the family gratefully welcomes donations to those who wish to do so to support them during this difficult time. Your generosity, kindness and support are truly appreciated. Donations may be sent to [email protected]. For additional information, please contact Jazz Beckford at 902-919-1330.
Though Shawn's journey on earth has come to an end, his love, laughter, strength, and legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
Forever loved. Forever remembered. Forever missed.
