It is with deep sadness that I announce the passing of my Boaz, my rescuer, my protector, my soulmate, my provider, my husband, my light, my man. The man my father Samuel Dixon Sr, upon meeting him for the first time, asked "When will you take her off my hands?" The man my brother Sam Jr loved and proclaimed to me "Dixie, you will not find a better man than Wayne!" The true love of my life. My personal superhero. This fine, honorable man, Wayne Edward Slawter, of East Preston, Nova Scotia, transitioned peacefully at Dartmouth General Hospital on September 04, 2025. Wayne was the youngest child of the late Alfreda Mae (Williams) Slawter and Alexander (Alex) Slawter.
Wayne's wife, siblings, mother in law, nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family and friends who love him dearly are left to honor his memory and legacy. Wayne an amazing husband, a father figure, committed, dedicated, positive influence, and friend to so many especially his nieces and nephews. Wayne will be greatly missed. “Loved some Uncle Wayne”
Wayne worked in the grocery industry (Capital Store, Superstore) and in security for years before, following in his brother Lorne's footsteps becoming a Professional Bus Operator. For the last two and a half decades Wayne has worked at Halifax Transit, retiring in 2022. Wayne had a great work ethic and loved his work. Always offering a safe drive, friendly greeting and welcoming smile for the public and support for his co-workers. Wayne enjoyed driving, loved to travel and drove throughout parts of eastern Canada and the United States on many occasions.
Wayne was involved in competitive body building, winning awards and certificates. Wayne was an avid sport's fan and athlete, traveling throughout the province playing in ball hockey and ice hockey leagues. Wayne was dedicated to health, resistance training, body building and continued to strengthen his body, encouraged others to do so until the end.
Wayne was a deeply spiritual, prayerful, grounded and dedicated man of God. Giving thanks and praise to his Lord and Saviour in every situation. He was a long-time member of East Preston United Baptist Church, serving as an Usher for many years. He was known for his warm welcome and infectious smile. He had joy as a doorkeeper in the house of God.
