

Anne B Powers 74, of Davenport, Iowa died Thursday, May 4, 2023 at Clarissa C Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf. A celebration of Anne’s life will be held on May 20th from 3pm – 6pm at The Tanglewood, 3636 Tanglewood Road, Bettendorf, IA 52722. Memorials may be made in Anne’s honor to Living Lands and Waters or Clarissa C Cook Hospice House.
The former Anne Compton Balzer was born January 15, 1949 in Cedar Rapids, IA, the daughter of Walter and Elizabeth Balzer.
Anne worked as an administrative assistant at the University of Iowa Athletic Department for over 30 years and then as the financial manager at Living Lands and Waters. Anne was an avid supporter of the arts. She was a member of Friends of the Figge, and contributed her time and talent in designing and making décor for fundraising events. She was a talented artist herself, enjoyed being creative, and traveling the world. Anne cared deeply about the environment and was generous with her time in supporting many local charities.
Above all, Anne will be remembered for her unwavering support of her family and many friends. She gave of both her time and her heart to all she met. She was accepting, kind, funny, smart, elegant, and talented. Throughout her battle with cancer, Anne handled herself with grace and maintained her wonderful sense of humor. Her strength and determination was inspiring to all.
Anne is survived by her beloved son Joseph (Karrie) Powers, her stepsons Tim (Teresa) Powers of Des Moines, IA and Scott (Sarah) Powers of Denver, CO; her grandchildren Isabella Holland of Madison, WI and Jacob Holland of Iowa City, IA, her dearest sister Libbet Brooke and her partner Bob Lank of Davenport, IA, her nephews Will (Becky) Brooke of Davenport, IA, Charlie Brooke of Davenport, IA, her great nieces and nephew Lola, Meti and Jimmy Brooke of Davenport, IA; sister in law Carol Jenkins, Ward, CO; and niece Greta Balzer.
Anne was preceded in death by her parents Walter and Elizabeth and her brother Tom Balzer.
A special thanks to the incredible staff at Clarissa C Cook Hospice for their superior care of Anne and support of her family.
