

Betty J. Chatfield, 84 of Davenport passed away on Saturday, January 28, 2017 at Manor Care Utica Ridge, Davenport. Funeral services will be 12:00 P.M. on Thursday, February 2, 2017 in The Runge Mortuary Chapel, with visitation one hour prior to service time. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Scott County Humane Society, Camp Shalom Christian Camp, or ST .Paul Lutheran Church. Online tributes and condolences may be made at www.therungemortuary.com. Betty was born in Davenport, a daughter of Lowell and Amanda (Lucht) Chatfield. Following her mother’s premature death, she was raised by her maternal grandparents. Betty proudly served her country in the US Airforce from July 1950 to April 1954 and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal as well as the National Defense Service Medal.
Betty was a very caring and kind soul and had volunteered at genesis VNA and Hospice for 17 yrs. She was a nature lover and always enjoyed driving through Scott County Park to see the deer. She thoroughly enjoyed visiting many of the US National Parks. Betty was an avid sports fan with her favorite being the Iowa Hawkeyes, Chicago Cubs, and the Detroit Lyons. She was an animal lover and enjoyed spoiling her pets through the years. She enjoyed traveling and especially loved spending winters at Coyote Howls Campground, Why, AZ. Betty had a very special bond with her great-great niece and nephews, Shelby, Dylan, and Colton Pifkin. She shared many hours with them going on lunch outings, visiting parks, swimming lessons, and most dear to her heart , being a stand-in grandparent for grandparent’s day with them at Riverdale Elementary School. Survivors include her brother Gerald (Francis) Chatfield Floyd, IA.; nieces and nephews who were all very dear to her, Diane (Leonard) Geerts, Jerry (Kathy) Chatfield, Cindy (Jim) Freiberg, Terry Chatfield, Brian Chatfield, Susie (Kurt) Mills, Mike (Renee) Carter, Charlotte (Bob) Pifkin, Karen (Bill) Franck, Denise (Denny) Ahrens, and Joel Carter. Betty had many great and great- great nieces and nephews all of whom she dearly loved. Cousins, Shirley and Maxine Strunk, Joan Perkins, Carol Sue Hartvigsen, Gene Lucht, and her beloved dog , Punkin. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, and her sister, Joan Carter, may they rest in peace. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Betty’s niece, Karen Carter-Franck, for her dedicated, loving, and compassionate care over the last 2 plus years. We’d also like to thank Unity Point Hospice caregivers and the Manor Care nurses, therapy staff, and CNA staff.
