Charles “Eugene” Harris Jr., 56, of Davenport, IA, passed away on Tuesday, May 23, 2023 at the University of Iowa Hospital. Per his wishes cremation rites have been accorded. Funeral services will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 1 at Weerts Funeral Home. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Eugene’s final resting place will be at Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery. Memorials may be left to the family.
Eugene was born on February 16, 1967 in Fort Benning, Georgia to Charles and Young (Lee) Harris. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Long Beach State and later earned his master’s degree as well. Eugene served in the Air Force for 10 years and received several awards for his achievements. Those awards include the Air Force Achievement Medal, Combat Readiness Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, and the Air Force Longevity Service Award.
Eugene was united in marriage to Kimberly “Kim” Harris on July 25, 1998 in Los Angeles, California. They moved to Davenport in 2007 when he took a job as Inventory Manager at the Rock Island Arsenal. Eugene worked at the arsenal until the time of his passing.
Eugene had a love for the outdoors and spent much of his free time in his garden, where he grew all different kinds of vegetables and various plants. Many memories were made on the walks he went on with his wife Kim and daughter Melissa out in Colorado. Eugene also enjoyed playing video games with his son Christian, one of their favorites to play together was God of War. Eugene was a plane expert, he loved attending countless airshows. He had a great sense of humor as well. His sunny smile and warm disposition will be greatly missed.
Those left to carry on his memory include Eugene’s son, Christian Harris; daughter, Melissa Koven (Awal Premi); father, Charles Harris Sr.; brother, Terry Cunningham; step-sister Yuni Kang and step-mother Myung Harris.
Eugene was preceded in death by his wife, Kimberly Harris and his mother, Young Lee.
