

Dale A. Nelson, 72, of Davenport passed away Friday, August 27, 2010 at the Clarissa Cook Hospice House following a 15 month battle with mesothelioma. Funeral services will be 11:30AM Tuesday (8/31) at the Runge Mortuary Chapel. Burial will be at Pine Hill Cemetery. Visitation is 3-8PM Monday at the mortuary. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, Clarissa Cook Hospice House, or St. Paul Lutheran Church Davenport. Dale was born September 2, 1937 in Davenport, IA to Lloyd & Margaret (Speth) Nelson. He was united in marriage to Betty Schneckloth on September 15, 1962 in Davenport at St. Paul Lutheran Church.
Dale had served in the US Air Force from 1956-1960. He was employed at the former Kartridge Pak Co., now Packaging Technologies for 36 years formally retiring in 1999 but continuing to work there part time until 2009.
Dale was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, loved to watch local dirt track auto racing, followed NASCAR, and was an avid outdoor walker. He was an accomplished wood worker having created many keepsakes for his family. His grandson was very special to him and he loved to spend time with him building race tracks and Lego buildings.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years Betty Nelson, Davenport; Son Robert D. Nelson, Davenport; Daughter Diana (Matt) Burnett, Davenport; Grandson Collin Burnett, Davenport; a brother Dennis (Sandy) Nelson; 4 sisters Jean (Don) Behrens, Lois (Reed) Winters, Gladys (Darnell) Hattam, & Kathy Wade; mother in law Beatrice Sherman Schneckloth: and numerous nieces & nephews
Dale was preceded in death by his parents; a son Scott ; a brother Lloyd Nelson Jr.; and 2 sisters Elaine Hearn & Beverly Kiesele.
