Danny Dwight Bynum

Danny Dwight Bynum, 81, of Burlington, formerly of Eldridge, passed away peacefully and with dignity on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, at the SE Iowa Regional hospice house in West Burlington. Visitation will be Wednesday, February 4, 2026, from 11:00 am until 12:00 pm after which a graveside service with military honors will be at the Rock Island National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may go to the family.

Danny was born in Modesto, CA to Oscar L. and Clara M. (Caldwell) Bynum. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1963 until 1967 during the Vietnam War. He worked for the Department of the Army in the ammunitions department for numerous years, retiring in 1994. He married Deanna Lindemood. He married June San Giovanni who preceded him in death. He later met Melenda McCampbell and they married in May 2025.

Danny gave 100% in everything that he did. He was an accomplished pigeon racer, having won several competitions and at age 50, won the strong-man contest in Davenport. He loved to play pool and loved talking politics with anyone who dared to ask him. He had no problems sharing his point of view. He was detail-oriented and his number one goal every day was to not only make his wife smile, but anyone he came across, especially those who were feeling down. He lifted them up and brightened their day. He was a published author having written five books and made the Who’s Who list in the writing category.

He was a former member of the Eldridge American Legion.

Those left to cherish and celebrate his life are his wife, Melenda, Burlington, sons, Galen (Jennifer) Bynum, Delhi, CA and Mason (Becky)Bynum, Bettendorf; stepsons, Elijah (Tru) McCampbell and Valentino (Alyssa) McCampbell; stepdaughter, Mykayla (Arviana) McCampbell, all of Burlington; grandchildren: Justin, Dalaney, Jarrett, Anthony “AJ,” Aniyah, Isaac, Keelon, Kemari, Keith, Layanna, Kayleanna, Kenkay and his best Air Force friend, Jim Lorenz.

He was preceded in death by his parents, second wife, June and brother Dennis.
