

Franklin Warren Zinger, 82, of Davenport, passed away peacefully Saturday, May 02, 2015 at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus. Funeral services will be held at 10AM, Wednesday, May 6, 2015 in The Runge Mortuary Chapel. Visitation will be held from 4-7PM, Tuesday, May 5, 2015 at the mortuary. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Diabetes Association, American Cancer Society, Davenport American Legion, Davenport Elks, St. Paul Lutheran Church, Davenport or to another worthy cause of your choice. Online tributes may be expressed at www.rungemortuary.com. Franklin was born on April 11th, 1933 in Iowa City, the son of Andrew and Estelle (Moeller) Zinger. Franklin proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War. While on leave he met the love of his life, Janice Darlene Ritza, at the A&W Rootbeer stand on Rockingham Road, where Janice was a car hop. On October 6, 1954 they married and later managed the A&W Rootbeer stand together. Frank and Janice just celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Franklin was employed at Peter Pan Bakery, Meadow Lane Dairy, Red Jacket Pump, MA Ford, Long Manufacturing and ended his career at the Rock Island Arsenal where he retired. Franklin was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, The Davenport American Legion Post #26, and the Davenport Elks Lodge #298 where he served as Exhaulted Ruler from 1984-1985. Franklin’s favorites past times were fishing with family and friends in Nisswa, Minnesota at his favorite fishing spot, Bass Lake. He also loved spending time with his children and grandchildren that he was very proud of. Franklin also enjoyed calling Bingo at the Elks Lodge and the American Legion. Franklin is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Janice; two children Vicki (David) Kottmann, of Santa Rosa, CA, and Mark (Trish) Zinger of Davenport; 5 loving granddaughters, Erin Kottmann, Santa Rosa, CA, Lindsay (Philip) Martinez, Opeleika, AL, Sarah Zinger, Davenport, Kasey Kottmann, Santa Rosa, CA, and Hannah Zinger, Davenport; and three great grandchildren Ava, Emmerson, and Ella of Opeleika, AL, and many loving nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the Visiting Nurses Association, the Wound Clinic, 4th Floor Cardiac Unit at Genesis East, the Oncology Unit, and Dr. Sye at Genesis West for all of their help and support during dad’s illness. Franklin was preceded in death by his parents, and sisters Betty and Shirley and brothers Tony and Bob.
