

Gerald, “Jerry” Edward Petkunas died peacefully on December 9, 2025 at Bettendorf Healthcare Center where he was receiving compassionate care after breaking his leg in a fall in his Bettendorf home. In accordance with his wishes, cremation will take place. Private inurnment will be at Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery.
Jerry was born on April 3, 1944 in Chicago. He moved with his family to Muscatine, Iowa then to Davenport and lastly to Bettendorf in 1988. He graduated from St. Mathias School in Muscatine. He retired from John Deere Harvester Works in East Moline after 30 years primarily as a painter. Jerry enjoyed time spent with his brother, Richey target shooting and fishing. He also enjoyed time with his brother-in-law Bernard working on cars and home improvements. He was a devoted son and enjoyed time spent with his entire family and with his lady friends. He was briefly married and widowed. Jerry loved to take long walks with his sister, Phyllie and he took care of his sister Pat in her later years. He loved listening to his Bible tapes every day. He attended mass when able at St. John Vianney’s Catholic Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony Peter and Myrtle Ruth Hudgens Petkunas; a brother, Richard Anthony Petkunas; a sister, Patricia Ann Petkunas; an infant sister; a nephew, Anthony Paul Petkunas and a great-great niece Catherine Mae Hallas.
Surviving is a sister, Phyllie Mae Martin, a niece, Pamela Ann (Stephen) Way of Brunswick, Ohio; a niece Judith Ann (Donald Lantz) Ewing of Bettendorf; a nephew, Thomas Anthony (Beth) Petkunas of Davenport; a large extended family and his beloved dog, Ginger.
