

Harley Glendon Grace passed away on Monday, January 16, 2017 at the Clarissa Cook Hospice Home. Funeral service will be at 2:00 pm on Friday, January 20, 2017 at the Runge Mortuary. Visitation will be one hour prior to service at the mortuary. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery, Riceville, IA on Saturday, January 21, 2017. Online condolences may be expressed at www.rungemortuary.com. He was born on April 23, 1921 on the homestead farm near Riceville Iowa to Roy B. Grace and Laura M (Funte) Grace. He graduated from Riceville High School and immediately joined the Army Air Corps. While serving his county he earned his Bachelor of Science degree from University of Maryland. Harley retired as an Air Force Captain in 1961 and began working for the Federal Civil Service in Rome NY and the Rock Island Arsenal. After retiring from the Civil Service in 1979, he and his wife Phyllis moved to Florida. Harley was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Hudson, Florida, the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA), the American Legion, Masonic Lodge and Order of the Easter Star, the Scottish Rite, the VFW, and the Moose and served in local, district and state offices for the Benevolent Order of the Elks. Harley is survived by his daughter, Patti (Joe) Vaccaro; son, Jon (Heidi) Grace, all of Bettendorf, IA; grandchildren: Joe (Meghan) Vaccaro, Kansas City, MO; Gina (Kaba) Kayembe, Waukee, IA, Drew, Tyler and Emmalee Grace, Bettendorf IA; three great grandchildren: Sophia and Lucas Vaccaro and Jackson Kayembe; wife, Phyllis M Grace, St. Petersburgh FL; her daughters, Tami Taylor and Shari Dorsey; their children Aubrey, Austin, Sallie and Samuel; sister-in-law, Virginia Grace and special nieces and nephews. Harley was preceded in death by his parents; three children; Steven, Michael and Marcia Grace; brother, Earl Grace; sister and brother-in-law, Ruth (Duane) Locke.
